Safety
Temporary works are permanent responsibilities
Propping, excavation support, formwork and crane bases carry real loads and real risks. They deserve the same design discipline as the permanent structure.

Temporary works exist only for the duration of construction, but the loads they carry are not temporary while they are in place. Many serious site incidents involve temporary works that were not designed, checked or inspected properly.
A register, a coordinator, a permit
Every temporary works item is listed on a register with its designer, checker and status. A temporary works coordinator controls the process, and nothing is loaded until a permit confirms it has been built and inspected as designed.
- Design brief and design
- Independent check proportionate to risk
- Inspection after erection
- Permit to load
- Permit to dismantle
The question is not whether something is temporary. It is whether it is carrying load.
